The
Minister for Education, Science and Technology Prof. Joyce Ndalichako has
launched the new Vocational Education and Training (VET) Board.
The
New Board under Chairmanship of Peter Maduki (Executive Director, Christian
Social Services Commission) is comprised of Ally M. Ahmed (Director of
Employment, Prime Minister`s OfficeLabour, Employment, Youth and people with
Disability), OnesmoP.S.Mbelle (Director of Small and Medium Enterprises, Ministry
of Industries, Trade and Investment), Winston M. Makere (Deputy General
Secretary , RAAWU), Padre E. Mbegu (Deputy Principal Secretary, Tanzania
Episcopal Conference), Mary Shuma (Director of Women Development , Children and
Gender program, Christian Council of Tanzania), Suleiman Lolila (Secretary
General, BAKWATA), Neema G. Mhondo (Director of Membership Services,
Confederation of Tanzania Industries), Rifai A. Mkumba (Human Resources Manager,
East African Cables (Tz) Ltd, Leah L. Ulaya,( RAAWU) and Dr. BwireNdazi (Ag. Director
General VETA).
Speaking
during the launching event in Dar es Salaam on March 6, 2017, the Minister
urged the new Board to ensure effective provision of VET in the country to
support national social economic development especially in realizing an industrialized
Tanzania.
She
said Vocational Education was an important aspect in the country’s development
as it was an area where a high percentage of skilled labour force was produced,
enhancing employability of youth and enhancing productivity of the industries.
Prof.
Ndalichako added that the new Board has been launched at the right time where
the 5th VETA Strategic Plan is being developed and urged the Board to ensure
its effectiveness since its early development and implementation.
The
Minister also directed the new Board to ensure various projects under
Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) including expansion of VET
centres and modernization of training workshops are executed properly and
timely.
She
also urged the Board to analyze the current trainee’s admission system and
identify areas of improvement to meet the current demands.
Earlier,
the Acting VETA Director General Dr. Bwire Ndazi said that the authority is
making various efforts to ensure vocational training reaches more people of all
groups in the society.
The
VET Board Chairperson Mr Peter Madukiassured the Minister that his Board will
ensure proper implementation of its duties and work on the Minister`s
directives to improve VET delivery in the country.
