Vocational Education and Training
Authority (VETA) is in the process of developing its Corporate Communication
Strategy.
Speaking during the official opening
of a two day consultation workshop held at the Morogoro Vocational Teachers
Training Centre, in Morogoro on 13th September this year, the VETA
Ag. Director General Geoffrey Sabuni said that the strategy will among other
things provide directions to the communication, public relations and publicity
of the authority, making it highly visible and recognizable with its partners
and stakeholders valuing its roles and achievements.
He said the analysis undertaken during
development of VETA Corporate Plan (VCP) IV mentioned lack of an effective VETA
and VET image building and promotion strategy, and weak system of communication
within and outside VETA as among weaknesses of VETA.
According to the Ag. DG, the analysis
called for a need to devise short-term, medium and long term strategies for
enhancing communication, public relation and publicity of VETA and VET.
A two-day consultation workshop which
involved some principals of VETA centres, labour market analysists, Vocational
Training coordinators and few external participants aimed at gathering
opinions, ideas and suggestions on the strategy.
Workshop facilitator Sophia Ndibalema
said that the strategy was an important communication tool in any organization
and plays a major role in realizing organizational goals and objectives.
One of the workshop participants, Bitubi
Makongoro (Principal of Tabora RVTSC) said that the strategy will serve as an
effective tool to enhance publicity of VET activities and to provide clear
understanding of VET among stakeholders.
VETA Public Relations Manager Sitta
Peter said that the inputs by various stakeholders were vital to ensure
development of an effective strategy and that all key stakeholders will be
involved in the process of developing the strategy. He said a five year
Communication strategy will also play a big role in strengthening internal
communication within the authority.
