The Vocational
Education and Training Authority (VETA) through Morogoro Vocational Teachers
Training College (MVTTC) is planning to establish partnership with Norway to
strengthen training delivery to VET teachers in the country.
Speaking to VETA E-
news yesterday, the MVTTC Principal Steven Lazaro said that his centre is expecting
to borrow experience from Oslo University of Norway in order to strengthen
teachers training through Distance and E- Learning.
He said Oslo University
has experience in VET teachers training for over 20 years now and that he
believes that the partnership will support his college`s efforts to provide
quality training to teachers especially through distance and e- learning to increase
the number of VET teachers in the country.
According to Lazaro,
other areas identified during the official talks with the representatives of
Oslo University who visited the country last week were the installation
of facilities for generating solar energy at the college as well as expansion
of the college`s off-campuses.
In terms of academic
progression for the VET Teachers, he said the partnership will also add value
to the college`s plans to establish a three- year Bachelor Degree focusing on
VET fields.
He said the college is
in the final preparations of establishing Post- Graduate courses and the
programme is expected to begin this year 2017 where a lot of bachelor graduates
who had intended to progress to VET in higher level will get the opportunity.
Oslo University has also
expressed interest to work with MVTTC under a five year project with the aim of
increasing the competence and industrial relevance for teachers and students in
the VET system.
The project named
“Strengthening Vocational Teacher Education and Training in Tanzania” will also
focus on renewable energy and ICT sectors where by there will be installation
of a complete facility for generating solar power at MVVTTC and to other three
VETA centres while smaller facilities will be installed at 11 other centres.
MVTTC is a government
institution governed by the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA)
and the only college in Tanzania with a mandate to train Vocational Teachers at
certificate and Diploma level. Currently the college has the capacity of 300
certificate students and 40 diploma students.
