The
Vocational Education and Training (VET) graduate of Carpentry and Joinery from
DSM Regional Vocational Training and Services Centre (RVTSC) Mr Fidelis Mchana
is expected to participate in the International Young Adults Furniture Making
competition during the World Wood Day scheduled to take place in Nepal from 19th
to 24th March, 2016.
The
event aims at promoting the benefits of efficient wood use; showcasing and encouraging
the international exchange of woodworking knowledge and skills; attracting
talented young people from around the world; and foster harmonious worldwide
woodworking education.
The
event which will take place at Kathmandu, Nepal focusing on wood, nature and
culture requires a graduate to participate in two tasks of the projects which
are “to design and build a desk and seat suitable for a child to use at home” and
the other one is “to design and build a table and bench seating for a number of
students to use in school environment”.
Speaking
in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Mr Oswin Komba, a Vocational Teacher in Carpentry
and Joinery who is also coaching the graduate for the competition said that the
preparations were on progress and was optimistic that the graduate will emerge
winner in the competition.
Mr
Komba advised VETA to borrow a leaf from the World Wood Day competition by
introducing zones and national skills competitions involving different trades.
He
said such competitions would motivate trainees and at the same time prepare
them to participate well in international events like the World Wood Day.
VET trainees and graduates have been participating in the World
Wood Day since 2013 in Tanzania, 2014 in China and 2015 in Turkey.
